Varun Arjun University Commends Faculty Researchers for Advancing Anatomical Science Through Rare Discovery

Varun Arjun University, Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, proudly applauds the publication of the research article titled “Congenital Agenesis of the Obturator Foramen in an Asian Population and Its Clinical Significance” in Annals of African Medicine, a peer-reviewed journal indexed in major international databases, including PubMed, MEDLINE & SCOPUS.

The study reports a rare anatomical variation—congenital agenesis of the obturator foramen, an ovoid opening in the hip bone. Based on an extensive research on dried cadaveric bones and review of the available literature, the authors identified this anomaly as an exceptionally rare anatomical finding in the studied Asian population. The publication makes a valuable contribution to the understanding of skeletal developmental variations and their potential clinical significance in orthopedic and pelvic surgery, radiology and imaging, neurovascular anatomy, biomechanics, forensic anthropology, and medical education.

The research was conducted by Dr. Kosuri Kalyan Chakravarthi, Professor of Anatomy, currently working at Manipal University College Malaysia, Melaka, Malaysia, in collaboration with Dr. Gaddam Thapasya Reddy, Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Varun Arjun Medical College & Rohilkhand Hospital. The work was carried out over several years from 2019 at Varun Arjun Medical College & Rohilkhand Hospital and highlights the importance of meticulous anatomical observation and systematic scientific documentation in advancing medical knowledge.

In recognition of this significant achievement, the investigators were conferred the Distinguished Anatomical Discovery Award by Varun Arjun University. The award acknowledges the academic significance of the study and its noteworthy contribution to the field of anatomical sciences.
