Early Detection Saves Lives” – National Cancer Awareness Day Observed by Department of ENT, Varun Arjun Medical College & Rohilkhand Hospital

The Department of ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) at Varun Arjun Medical College & Rohilkhand Hospital, under Varun Arjun University, Shahjahanpur (U.P.), observed National Cancer Awareness Day on 7th and 8th November 2025. The two-day program focused on promoting awareness about the early detection and prevention of oral and throat cancers.


On 7th and 8th November, a cancer screening was done, in which more than 100 patients were examined for oral and throat cancers. Patients received health check-ups and were educated about early warning signs and preventive measures for cancer.


On 8th November, an awareness talk was delivered by Dr. Poornima S. Bhat, Professor of ENT, who addressed patients and MBBS students, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis, lifestyle modifications, and awareness in preventing head and neck cancers.


Students of the MBBS 2021 batch actively participated in a slogan writing competition on the theme “Early Detection Saves Lives”. Mohammad Yahya secured the first prize, Navdeep Malik won the second, and Nishtha Kishore received the third prize.


During the program, students and faculty took a pledge to spread cancer awareness and promote early detection. They committed to educating the community, encouraging timely screening, and supporting those affected by cancer.


Chancellor of Varun Arjun University Dr. Keshav Agarwal, Vice Chancellor of Bareilly International University Dr. Lata Agarwal, Pro-Chancellor of VAU Dr. Ashok Agarwal, and Vice Chancellor of VAU Dr. Kiran Agarwal, collectively commended the efforts, praising the students’ enthusiasm and the faculty’s commitment to raising public awareness about cancer.


Faculty and staff who actively participated included Associate Professor of ENT Dr. Saquib Reyaz Khan, Assistant Professors Dr. Himani Singh and Dr. Shradha Agarwal, Senior Residents Dr. Deepti Chauhan and Dr. Quaisser Bhat, along with the postgraduate residents.


Dr. Santhanakrishnan, Professor and Head of the Department of ENT, appreciated the students’ active participation and their commitment to the pledge. He reaffirmed the department’s and hospital’s dedication to promoting early detection and control of cancer. The event concluded with a strong message emphasizing the vital role of awareness, preventive measures, and timely medical intervention in combating cancer.
